I need more time by Wendy G True Story Flash contest entry |
The hard decision was made – our cat should not suffer further. Good-byes were sadly said. Tammy stopped breathing in the vet's waiting-room. He certified her death, offered cremation. No – we wanted a garden burial. As we drove home the children exclaimed, "She's breathing!" "Impossible. Just puffs of air – the vet explained ...." Once home, Tammy sprang out. She was indeed alive! "Your driving jolted her back to life!" the children declared. For thirty minutes, she cuddled each one, licked milk, then lay down and died – again. We waited twenty-four hours before burying her – just in case. I'm glad we refused cremation.
