On Sunday afternoons, we’d go
up to the attic, there to play.
My mother knew fun things to do,
and that is where we’d spend our day.
We’d dress up in old-timey clothes,
long dresses, boas, buttoned shoes,
then act out stories we made up,
and maybe take a pretend cruise.
On rainy days, we’d snuggle up
and listen as the raindrops tapped
the roof with drowsy-making drone,
I will confess sometimes we napped.
Oh, how I cherish memories
of Mother playing games with me,
and later Daddy joined in, too.
What happy times we had, we three.
