The School Bus Driver by RodG
|
Norm Iversen pulled the yellow bus into the unloading zone, stopped, but didn't open the door.
He glanced over his right shoulder at the rowdy group of kids still crawling over the seats and each other. The bus may have stopped, but not the screams, bellows, teasing or threats. He knew each child's first and last name, grade level, and where he/she got on and off each day. He wanted to tell them. Couldn't. Instead, he pulled the handle. When the door opened, they all scrambled out. "Goodbye," he whispered. "I'm retiring." He wondered aloud, "Will you miss me?"
