The Storms of April by BethShelby
Minute Poetry Contest contest entry

When April storms begin to build
my heart is thrilled
The scent of rain
beguiles my brain.
The sky turns black with roiling rage
and sets the stage
for spring’s new birth
upon our earth.
The flashing lightning splits the sky
Cicadas cry
Their years have passed
They're free at last.

Author Notes
Maybe I'm a little strange. I've been in enough tornados to know better, but there is something about a thunderstorm which I find thrilling. Cicadas spend either 13 or 17 years in the ground. In Spring they emerge to fill the air with sound.
