The Killer
It would be easy,
she decided, silently to herself.
Just one little second
and it would all be
over.
No one
would ever know.
No one would ever guess.
No one would know she
killed him.
It would be
an inconceivable
thought to anyone
that she could possess
enough guts to
actually plan it and then to
pull it off.
So,
the time was chosen
and method of choice
was made. Now,
to set the trap and lure him in.
She methodically went
around the room
making preparations.
It'll be the hardest
thing she'll ever do but if
she wants to be able
to sleep at night
and not have to worry
about the constant assaults,
it has to be done.
Everything
in place, all she has
to do now is to wait
for him to show up.
Sunset was
slowly creeping
onto the horizon.
Feeling a bit dozy,
she stood up
just in time to
hear him
come through the door.
She didn't bother
to switch the overhead
light on. The lamp
at the end of the old
sofa would do.
Slowly she backed to the wall
behind the door.
She held
the weapon behind
her back
and took a deep breath.
Beads of sweat
began to form over
her upper lip.
She haphazardly pushed
the hair out of her eyes
with her free hand.
He was here!
Can't miss the sound
of his arrival ...
been driving her crazy
all week now.
Almost time.
Almost time.
I can do it.
I can do it ...
she counseled herself.
He was closer now.
So close, the noise taunted her.
He was nearly at
the table at the end of the sofa now.
She held her breath knowing
his back was to her, all she
needed to do was
to quietly sneak up
behind him.
Holding her breath,
she did just that.
She could see the light of the
lamp glimmer and highlight
his shadowy form.
Two more steps and it
would be all
over.

Her arm slammed
down on top of the
biggest mosquito
ever with a
flyswatter.
This city girl would suffer no more!
