An impish breeze insists we take
a country jaunt today.
The cherry tree's aburst with blooms
and rapturous jonquils sway.
Meandering down a rutted lane
we pass a rustic fence
its rails entwined with Irish rose
unruly, thorned, and dense.
The fallow fields await the plow
their grasses pale, unshorn
and mingling cows in pastures dine
with spindly calves newborn.
Three circling crows soon perch to caw
and scoff relentlessly
as humming bees seek nectar from
each blossom blissfully.
The cotton tufts in azure skies
sail off and slip away
outriggers on congenial seas
this charming Springtime day.
