I think of you standing as a great tree in its season
Soil, so rich and black
heaped upon your thickened roots
You bore the fruit that fell beneath the Middle Passage
You bear the scars that should have broken
a weaker woman's back.
Yet, like twin moons--your eyes are seen
still sparkling from their oval cavities
America--the stage and you, its tragedienne queen.

The Middle Passage - the infamous slave ship route; many died at this point of the long journey and were tossed overboard.
This is a short poem I wrote as an Ode to the Black women who played a part in one of American's worst tragedies - "slavery".
