Dave Letterman has left "Late Show."
He's left his fans heartsick.
We watched him thirty-three swift years.
The news, then him we'd pick.
His goofy grin, those lists of ten,
and sharp, sardonic wit
kept us engrossed and up too late.
Why did he have to quit?
Those many guests who oft returned
spiced up his show indeed.
But Dave himself was why we watched.
He is a special breed.
"We have more guests, a zany host,"
the network will insist.
"Though Dave is gone, the show must go on.
'Late Show" you can't resist!"
Oh, yes, I can. I will not watch
because the show's not HIS.
A loyal fan for three decades,
DL I'll surely miss!
