A Potpourri of Poetic Curiosities
: A little Poe-m by CD Richards

When wishing to experience a scare,

a chilling read quite sure to raise your hair;

It's to the bookshop you must up and go,

and choose a tale or two by Mr Poe.

This murdermonger quite extraordinaire

wrote horror with a great degree of flair.

Author Notes
Today's word: murdermonger (n.) a writer of murder stories.

On 20th April, 1841 Edgar Allan Poe's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" was released, so this seems an appropriate day to pen a small tribute.

My much-treasured Christmas present for 2017 is a book by Paul Anthony Jones: "The cabinet of linguistic curiosities". Each page contains a descriptive story about some obscure or archaic word. It occurred to me it would be a fun exercise to try and write, each day, a poem featuring the "word of the day" from the book.

Thanks for reading.
