A Potpourri of Poetic Curiosities
: Injustice by CD Richards

My mum was a bit of a drubber,
and cleaned my mouth with a pot-scrubber.
It was unjustified,
so I cried and I cried—
I'm just a compulsive word-grubber.

Author Notes
Today's word: word-grubber (n.) someone who uses obscure or difficult words in everyday conversation.

Also...

drubber: someone who administers beatings.
pot-scrubber: a device for scrubbing pots (!)

My much-treasured Christmas present for 2017 is a book by Paul Anthony Jones: "The cabinet of linguistic curiosities". Each page contains a descriptive story about some obscure or archaic word. It occurred to me it would be a fun exercise to try and write, each day, a poem featuring the "word of the day" from the book.

Thanks for reading.
