A Potpourri of Poetic Curiosities

The Surveyors

The job they do is stradametrical;
a task which really is quite technical.
One really needs a good theodolite
to get the angles all worked out just right.
Yes, getting anywhere would be a guess,
if we could not rely on GPS.
Let's all applaud our highway survey crews;
without them, traveling could be bad news.

Today's word: stradametrical (adj.) pertaining to the size and measurements of streets and roads.
A theodolite is a surveying instrument with a rotating telescope for measuring horizontal and vertical angles.
My much-treasured Christmas present for 2017 is a book by Paul Anthony Jones: "The cabinet of linguistic curiosities". Each page contains a descriptive story about some obscure or archaic word. It occurred to me it would be a fun exercise to try and write, each day, a poem featuring the "word of the day" from the book.
