November snow swirls~
People rush by the proud veteran
and his box of poppies.
Blood red poppies.
Lest we forget.
A young boy tugs his mother
tapping on her phone,
rushing to get home.
Solemn, their eyes meet,
the young boy salutes.
How could he know
of sacrifices made
so long ago?
The veteran smiles, slowly bends down,
pins a poppy with shaking hands.
Still serving yet weary,
he brushes snow from his beret.
Then takes a sip
of the chilled,
take away
coffee.
November snow swirls ~
as people rush by.
