Australians all rallied and as one would fight
hungry firestorms raging with horrendous might
taking advantage of a drought stricken land
burning our country rendering life an outcast
fierce fires from hell were raising their hand
devouring before them our land to the last
indescriminately forcing mankind to the sand
destroying our homes scarring all that was past
fueling their power from life's perspiration
exploding in flames the tales of our being
darkening our future with pure devastation
inflaming its terror, goading the fleeing
engulfing all prey underserving cremation
unforgiving this enemy, uncaring, unseeing!
demanding attention from unbeaten foes
unwilling to accept what mankind knows
history's not lost just smouldering for now
standing back to back at the salt waters' edge
as we fight for a country unwilling to bow
breathing black ash Australians make pledge
as firemen fall while honoring their vow
providing safe path becoming life's wedge
our country will mourn for years yet to come
in tears of desire to starve off the cold
fed by nations abroad helping fears to succumb
by waking all people for our dreams to unfold
as the eyes of the world shine light to become
a place for the future where stories are told
of barren lands wandered by the young and the old
searching for something to love and to hold
