When we were young, we would often pretend
Heroes and halos could all save the day,
Immersed in our childhood fun with no end
So many summers and years slipped away.
Perhaps there, deep inside, everyone knew
Each time that first day of school would begin,
Riding those unicorns was never true
Echoing whispers of life’s changing wind.
Deception, it’s true, is a dangerous game
One played deep inside our young adult mind,
Newly found freedoms and raw lust to tame
Teem into holes youth’s dreams left behind.
Heady those feelings stirred down in our soul
Enchanted such that true love’s vows we exchange,
Willing to mark as forever our goal
In spite of the wind softly whispering change.
Noteworthy the speed of life’s passing years
Dandy nests fill then grow empty again,
Softly youth's dreams remind we’re in arrears
Our sunsets lose luster as longings grow pained.
Fin'lly one morn, sunrise makes us blink twice
Colors of trueness both naked and strange,
Hauntingly we reflect back through our life
And pray we find there our own wind of change:
Not our dreams, not some vows, not all that’s past.
Grabbing hold of tomorrow, we reach for that Star… as
Eternity whispers that life’s changes won’t last.
