Near Summer's End

Summer days ebb and flow
each day shortening the depth of light
expanding into the evening night
as the sun sets in the western sky.
At the end of a summers day
as the waves slowly slink away
I saunter with the
warm water licking my thighs
digging into my thoughts of, Why?
Pushing along with gliding steps
Letting my soul reach into deeper depths
pondering the lingering days of summer's sunny rays.
Questioning what is to come in the following days?
