Hello Jay, this is a clever one - you painted a picture with your words, and the actual picture was a great find. Good blood red colour choice. Congratulations Dorothy x

These words succintly tell the story of the fate of a bull in a bull fight.
It also gives you a clear image of a matador.
Congratulations on winning the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy

This is a very nice poem, it has the proper machismo for the topic. In keeping with the contest, your few words were well chosen. The image is nice as well. Buena.

I can't understand the fascination with bullfighting. You really set up the life or death situation in this Great imagery with the cape-battered taunt. I watched a DVD of "The Old Man and the sea" last night. I don't think you prove courage by doing something stupid like bullfighting of trying to catch a huge fish with a boat that was too small for the task. Best of luck in the contest. You really packed a lot into this 2-4-2 entry. judi

Thank you, Judi. Yes, it's quite compact--has to be. I worked about 4 hours altogether to click all the words in place. But it feels good to get it right, doesn't it.

You're welcome. Those short ones are toughies. You can ponder over a single word for a long time. Every words really counts. judi

Excellent 2-4-2 poem. We visited Spain once and we could have gone to a bull fighting area but I opted out of the experience. There's is a story of bravery and death.
Well written Jay.
Blessings

Thank you, Janet. I think you opted well if it wasn't part of your culture. I attended a bull-fight when I was a young man of about 18 and it had a lasting, and not necessarily uplifting, effect on my malleable mind.

Thank you for sharing your contest entry with us. While a teenager, I studied in Spain, Spanish Language and Culture at the University of Salamanca. I did go to some bull fights and also went so some in Portugal. Anyway, I wish you luck with the contest.

Isn't it Portugal where they jump over the bulls, and there is no slaying them? Seems I remember hearing something about that. Or maybe it's Greece. Thanks for reading, Barbara.

For one or the other at the very least. I don't like bull fighting, but understand it's part of the culture of Spain. Courageous is the matador, the bull just runs on instinct. Best of luck in the contest.

This 2-4-2, The Matador and the Bull, brings a moment of man and beast to the reader as we can only see in this dance. The man, raised to be there, in these seconds, and control the beast until its destiny is delivered. The bull, unknowingly attempting to eliminate the fancy man, will be relieved of that struggle. The truth of the bull's courage is known; the man will show his hand, filled with steel, and end any doubt.

Well put, Bill. I like that part about the bull trying to eliminate that fancy man! That must be the one thing that keeps the bull from being overcome with terror.

This is a grand display in short verse, dear Jay. Very unique and colorful. The matador is brave or just a tad bit insane. The vote is still out.
Sending you my best today as always, and my very best for the upcoming contest,

Thanks Sally for your kind words and wellwishes. I've been gone for 2 years and it's good to see some of my friends are still here. Or am I confusing you with another Sally?
