Hi Wendy,
Omg! This is incredible! Dear little kitty did need more time to say goodbye ... animals are just amazing creatures, aren't they? I love all animals. Little Tammy seemed a loving "people" pet who loved her folks. So so dear, brought a tear to my eyes, Wendy.
A well deserved win!

Wendy,
This is a short and miraculous story. She had some more good byes to say it seems. It is always sad to lose a pet. We put our dog down about 5 years ago.
Congrats on placing second in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing, and also for your lovely congratulations. Greatly appreciated. Yes, it is always hard, but this was probably the lest difficult as we felt she did it her own way and was surrounded by our love and happiness to see her come back to life. Sadness hit us again later ....

You are most kindly welcome on all accounts. We also wish we can choose or own way and time to die.

An exceptional story and well deserved contest win - must have been very difficult for the judges to choose between 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Excellent work and I enjoyed. Congratulations, ann

Clearly Tammy was a girl of her own mind and needed longer to say goodbye. It's not just the driving, what a jolt to your emotions it must have been to go through a death, a resurrection, and another death in one day. You have written the story in a most engaging style, pulling the reader into the sequence of events. I liked the wry last line.
Congratulations on your recent successes.

Thank you so very much for the exceptional review. Wow, that is a lovely surprise - especially since the story is only worth two cents now. Yes, it was an amazing day of mixed emotions, sad, happy and excited, and grieving all at once. But her passing that way gave us all great peace, because she indeed did it "her way". And maybe that should have been the title: "I did it my way!"

I generally don't pay much attention to what an item is offering as incentive to read it (I know to others it is the primary reason for reading something). i get so busy that sometimes quite a while passes before i can catch up with some reading of worthy stories or poems. I'm sure i've missed too many of yours - I admire your writing... I can relax when i read it as I know I won't be stumbling down ill-written paths strewn with misspellings and typos.

Thank you! That's a lovely compliment.
I am a bit the same. I by-pass some well-paying ones if they are just "buying" reviews, and will review good ones even if they have expired, or if some-one can't afford to promote their piece. In a way the system encourages self-promotion of poor work if they don't get reviewed because of poor quality.
Nevertheless I am glad you enjoy my writing!

Yes, basically this is a vanity site.... very good at sucking up people's money. Most reviews are not really helpful advice. I feel if people can't write very well, how are they going to know how to express themselves in a review? I'm not a snob, just a realist.
(My main reason for being on this site is to challenge my own creativity with daily writing and seeing how people respond to it; also to be stimulated by contest prompts and then to see how other writers have responded to the same topic in comparison.)

Yes, I learn more from reading other people's work than by reading comments or reviews on mine. There are a few good reviewers who will give their honest thoughts and suggestions, but in general they are in the minority.

Wow! Did you tell the vet, Wendy? He should have given your money back. We have had to put down 3 dogs and 2 cats in the last dozen years. It's no fun. We've got 3 cats to go, and I told my wife... NO MORE PETS!
We had all our pets cremated, and their urns are in the curio cabinet. We've decided they will go in our caskets when we die. I'll have Annie and Gracie, cairn terriers, and my wife will have Willie (another cairn), and cats, Max and Roger.
That would be a terrible shock, the cat jumps out when you get home, only to live an extra 35 minutes. That's a real crime.
I've heard of deer coming back to life after they'd been shot. One fellow was gored by an antler when retrieving a buck from a stream.
Thanks for sharing this sad story.
Good Luck in the contest!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thank you so much for your super review. At the time, I didn't think to tell the vet, but he didn't charge us anything because the cat had "died" in the waiting room so he didn't do anything much except confirm the death, and tell us that there would be little puffs of air coming out of her system. In the end we were happy and excited to have her with us for that last half hour, but at the same time sad!
Very mixed emotions. I like the way you have kept all your pets and the way you have planned for them to be with you forever. That is beautiful.

I believe our pets will be in Heaven, waiting for us, Wendy. What a reunion it will be!

Wendy!
I hope you called and told the vet what happened. Wow. That could be a horribly traumatic moment in other situations. I'm glad everyone had the wonderful chance for more time. What a crazy story! Thanks!

Thanks so much Robyn. Great review. No, at the time I didn't think to call the vet back! We had such mixed emotions at the time - excited, happy and sad all rolled together! Truth can be stranger than fiction!

Wendy, this is unbelievable! I have to wonder how the vet could have mistaken the death in his office. I'm glad too that you decided against a cremation and she had time to cuddle and lick everyone before finally slipping away. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks so much Judy. Lovely review! Well, the strange thing was that she was definitely dead while we were at the vet's. No signs of life, no breathing, nothing. Maybe it WAS my driving! But we found that last half hour so precious!

That's a pretty amazing story, Wendy. Those times when a pet has to be put down are very emotional. I have the ashes of two of our dogs on my workbench. I can't seem to get rid of them. They have been there for over thirty years.

Hi Paul, thanks so much for reviewing. Greatly appreciated! We had a big Labrador much later - she is now buried at the bottom of a large above ground vegetable tub but I planted ferns and flowers and trailing plants over her! It looks beautiful.

I have to take it that she wanted on last goodbye on her terms. I have never heard of such a thing.
It is a sad but heartwarming story.
Good luck in the contest

Thank you Mary, for your lovely review. Yes, it was quite amazing, so our feelings were mixed - so happy that she was able to choose her own time and place, but sad too at her going.
