This is an appealing insight into your family dynamics - your aunty really is a take-over person. She seems determined to drag your poor father into the century of recovery. Very clear description, and powerful writing style.

EEEWWW! You did a great job, Mary, with your story. I believe it's a bf funny now, but not at the original time. The descriptions of the living quarters was done well. I could see everything you mentioned. The dinner minus the turkey still sounded good. Of course the apple pies were there in the back of everyone's mind. Thanks for participating.
Respectfully, Jan

I think you passed muster with your story, Mary.
Your Aunt's heart was in the right place and you have to love those take charge type people. You are lucky to have such a large family. How did worms happen to survive in the turkeys cavity that long? Good story. I like fried potato sandwiches myself. LOL well done. Nancy

I can just imagine that! All those people crowded into a small space, and a turkey full of worms. It made for an unforgettable Thanksgiving. Good luck in the contest.

You are blessed to have such a kind and considered Aunt and Uncle to "bring" Thanksgiving to your home after your family's loss. How unfortunate about the turkey! Sometimes, though, it's the memories of events that did not go perfectly that are the mostly fondly remembered.
I loved your description of tiptoeing over sleeping bodies like a cartoon character, and I loved the imagery of you eating a canned spaghetti sandwich. How like a child to delight in something so simple. I was the same way with Vienna Sausages.
Your opening lines caused me a bit of confusion. I took it to mean that you had never been to a slumber party excluding a particular event that you wouldn't truly categorize as a slumber party, and now you were about to tell a story about a slumber party that you WOULD categorize as one. I understand your meaning now, and I thought your story was great despite my initial confusion.
I also love the image you chose and the title. I look forward to reading more stories from you!
Warm wishes!

How horrible. The store that sold this turkey should have been sued. I wondered if the worms were cooked or live and wiggling. Either was it sound like an unforgettable Thanksgiving and not in a good way. I might have found this funny if it didn't sound so gross.

Thank you Beth for your review; it is appreciated.
I do not remember anyone truly being grossed out rather relieved that they discovered it. The kids were farm kids and found it interesting.
Best wishes,
Mary

I wonder what your last sentence meant; a dish that I would prefer over any turkey with or without worms. I saw a woman oversees eating worms as a delicacy! Ouch!

Thank you for the review, Rosemary, it is appreciated.
As a kid, my favorite snack, lunch, or supper was Franco American Spaghetti. It was a real treat to put it between white bread.
Best wishes
