A most inspirational poem you penned. Pleased you placed in the contest. The soldier deserved his Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart. The boy has gained a friend, likely for life, in place of the loss of his father's companionship.

Nice story, and sets out the flash clearly. There is no twist as such at the end, but it allows you to think on about how they are likely to become friends in life. Well done and good luck.

That's a heartwarming story told in just a hundred words! Without all the details, you gave the backstory via the common loss of leg and dialogue and developed a relationship between the Marine and the boy. Hope this does well in the contest!
