Hi Debra!
I had never encountered the term pear-shaped before.
I love learning new things!
Nice job making your syllable count work.
Thank you for sharing.

Oh yes! There's always one of those and I remember one from my college days. Even if he messed up he'd out talk everyone to death so he'd still seem to have won the argument. Lol.

How is your husband doing? Did you read Sandra's post about her Long Covid? It made me wonder about your husband and how he was doing.

Author,
His senryu says so much about men who profess to know it all. Unfortunately, some women are smart alecs too.
Nice form and syllable count.
Good luck!

Hello Cindy :)
Thanks for your feedback - you're right, the characteristics of the smart Alec are not unique to men, there are many female smart Alecs around too - there really ought to be a feminine idiom!
Best wishes, Debra :)

This 5-7-5, Smart Alec, has the proper formatting and reminds the readers of that person who manages to be irksome in every situation, and whose failure to wake may be met with a smile.

It seems that in this world we do come across those kind of folks many times. I have learned to turn a deaf ear to those who think they know it all. I enjoyed your poem very much. Patricia. Patricia

-Good artwork and nice presentation, Debra.
-I have know an number of smart Alec's from teaching!
-You wrote a very good poem about it.
-The notes were helpful, and from your last
line, I gather he couldn't admit things went
awry and that he had always planned it that way!
-Well done, and continued success with the project.

There are quite a few 'Alecs' in my current class!
The last line, you gathered correctly ;)

This is a clever idea for a short poem and it reads well. However, I think that you could have done away with shortening 'everything' by saying something like 'he knew the whole works' and 'deliberate' by using something like 'purposeful'. The 'ps' of pear-shaped and purposeful would then have added some alliteration to the poem. Having said that I do like this short piece so well done
