Hi Jim, this poem gave me chills. I couldn't pull my eyes away until I reached the end, and I was saddened when you didn't meet your Rose. A very heart-wrenching story.

This is an excellent poem about love, loss, war, imprisonment, faith & hope. A story beautifully told.
Thanks for sharing the interesting and shocking story of Anderson Andersonville Prison, what a hell hole! Well done and good luck with the contest.

Loving, gritty, broken and lost. You have penned a great poem/story and if you don't win the contest I will throw my stetson away. You sure do know how to write a story in a poem. Best wishes. K xx

How very sad to treat human beings with this lack of respect and your words here are powerful and sad Jim. Some prisons are overcrowded in the UK and riots are easily started because of the overcrowding. An interesting post, love Dolly x

What a truly fabulous poem, about a real event. One that tore a great Country apart in an internal conflict. A tragedy, brother against brother. But it became an even greater country and today sits as World Leader. As poetry, this is superb, as history, accurate, I think.
Jim, congratulations on a picec of sheer brilliance.

An excellent entry for the Free form poetry contest. I am learning all kinds of things tonight. The poem was lovely and I gained all kinds of information from reading your author notes. Thanks for sharing and for the nice video.

A very wellcomposed tribute to those that suffered the horrors at Anderson ville. The line that caught my attention was: "But when the trumpet sounded,They were ready to give their lives for me."

This is a well-constructed free verse poem. The content is the very definition of why William Tecumseh Sherman said, "War is hell." The prisoner is trying to live his life in the promising past as he remembers his Yellow Rose. Every breath reminds him that he is stuck. His pride is gone, his love is gone, and he is counting days.
The narration was very good. And it is a touching, yet grim story. We underestimate the misery of war. You made it clear in this poem. Andersonville is one of the worst places that ever existed on the face of the earth.

I really liked reading this poem. It brought back memories of reading a play about Andersonville in high school. I only had one suggestion; change 'incorruptible' to 'incorrigible.' If I read it right, Rose didn't like the young man at first sight, but he sure grew on her later.
