A very interesting and thought-provoking poem. I am not sure I understand all of this, but is certainly well stated overall. Best of luck in the contest and Merry Christmas! Evi

Oh...this is very wise! Labels slip away, scorn is silenced...
Who among us would have welcomed the thought of a fifteen year old virgin...impregnated and carrying the son of God?
(She must be on Fentanyl)
Walls would be built! Birther-baby crises would be debated.
Faith would sear the cable news wire!
Jesus was born homeless...
How many would loudly declare there is no room at the inn?
Hypocrisy is an icy altar, isn't it?
Way to turn the mirror and show us our reflection!
Sardonic and sharp as a switchblade.
Brilliant!

Bill, This is a very well written Free Form Christmas poem about the Marys of this world today. I still say Jesus is the Reason for the Season in my eyes. Everyone has their own opinion. This was a great poem my friend. Thank you for sharing. love, blessings and Merry Christmas! Teri

Why they put this "out front" amazes me. This was for a contest where we were to remain anonymous. Yes F/S chose to reveal me. But Teri, thanks for your wonderful review.

I enjoyed this tribute to Mary here as she plays a key role in the nativity as the virgin Mother. A sweet and endearing poem full of faithful words, much enjoyed, love Dolly x x x

A very interesting poem about the return of the Messiah, these last lines brought this poem home to me: "Brace yourself. There's a birthquake coming! Because of Mary." Excellent

Thanks for your review. "Birthquake" is what we call an apotheosis.

I like this original and modern take on the Virgin Mary and the reason she was chosen to show the world that we all count, even the most humble among us. The emphatic structure of your free form verse with the repetition of the line: Because of Mary - is effective in driving the message home. I also like the conversational tone of your poem which make it all very readable and engaging. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Thank you, Debbie. This was not a poem to denigrate or alter the love I have for Mary. She is such a powerful person in the Gospels. She is there at birth and at death.

Mary's story is basically a story of trust. Mary trusted the angel of God who told her she had been chosen to bear the Messiah. Joseph trusted Mary and as a result, the greatest story ever told is repeated not every year at Christmas, this story is told over and over again, every day as new converts to Christianity are made aware of this great love story.

Awww, how sweet. Mary did take on quite a responsibility and had none of the trappings of the elite or well to do. She was a simple peasant girl who God chose to carry the King of all of us. She was obedient and kind.
Great job, and best of luck in the contest,
Rhonda

This was a beautiful poem! I love the continuation of the "Because of Mary..." I also really admire the way this poem sheds light on the fact we all truly matter. This was a really good poem. In my humble opinion, I would've liked a bit more about the joy Christmas brings even to the rejects, and I don't like the use of the old Buick, but it made sense you decided to do it that way, but it was pretty weird that you compared a Buick to a donkey, which I get used to be a symbol of class, but comparing it to a crappy car now was weird to me, but I respect your choice in words, just curious as to why.

A donkey was all that Joseph and Mary would have had. The Buick represents the invisible. They don't travel in late model cars. But both are humble forms of transportation.

This is a great poem.
Great writing with powerful repetition, really drawing the attention to a deeper meaning of christmas.
Bringing into light current problems and our current societies blind eye.
Well done and Merry Christmas!

Thank you, Elizabeth. Now if I could get this system to honor my edits. Very frustrating.
