Sometimes love turns to heartache when there's an age gap between lovers. This sounds like it ended sadly. I've been on both sides of the fence, 20 yrs, younger, 18 yrs. older.
Sounds like a mismatch from the get go and it wasn't just the decade difference. Glad to know the cowboy had eough heart left to get back in the saddle. Maybe he's got one rodeo left, hope so.

in our lives may bring us sadness but the memories
remain in our hearts, sad or happy. it could be the
loss of a loving relative or the kind of life you
were living.

the way you repeat the 2nd verse 3 times, I thought maybe these would be lyrics, just start humming for it.
the cowboy, his horse, his farm and his gal. You cover it all. lol the one that got away from heart breaking over life.

This poem has a good flow in its thoughts and phrases. But in the first stanza you change genders of the person...
The end of this relationship was somewhat sad and cold
What made it end so sudden was, the cowboy just got old
She was younger by a decade, her life was riding high
The cowboy loved his ranchland life and had to pick a side
I still liked this poem, but the gender switch was a bit confusing. Over all this is a very good piece of poetic art to have read and written this response for... John

repeatedly in a great way. Not overpowering, but it works with the author's idea planned. A man who yearns for his ranch. Great job. Lives takes different routes. That is completely okay.

I enjoyed this. It has a nice rhythm, some easy rhymes, and is probably a true story, happening somewhere even as I write. I like the refrain--like a song more so that a poem; I don't think you needed to use it so many times. Kenny

You have a smooth flow of words that tell a story here. It is a true to life story when people of different backgrounds and desires go their separate ways. The teaching from our fathers that carry us this far is a wonderful refrain that adds comfort to the poem.

Your poem or song (given the refrain) would be perfect for Country and Western music. With its themes of cowboy life and the sadness of having to make a choice about the woman he desired or his world of ranching, it has all the elements of a 'cowboy blues' singalong. The verse stands up well via good rhyme and rhythm, and the text conveys the emotion without dipping over into maudlin or melodramatic. I enjoyed the narrative and wish you well in the contest.

his life Writings From the Heart 'Heartaches & cowboys.' Yes it is indeed a sad moment when you lose someone you loved fiercely and dearly. Death is final, but parting ways is no different, and I think it hurts more. Well done.
