Hi Julie,
I'm sorry for being so late with this, but I'm still dealing with my lower back/right hip after slipping in mud on the Grand Bay Trail back on March 3rd. I can't sit in this chair for very long. My writing and reviewing have taken a backseat!
I pulled this poem out from 2010, the year I joined Fanstory. It only captured 8 reviews back then, but now it's reached "Recognized" status with a total of 21 reviews! And 4 of those have been sixers!

I've had a bad right hip for a few years now. But I still managed to walk 458 miles in 2023. So far this year, I'm at 37 miles. I'm a sucker for pain!

Hi Helen,
You know, I wrote this on the fly, as ideas popped into my head. I never plan a poem. It's more exciting that way. I wrote this one not long after I wrote "The Dragon of Dark Harbor", one of my all-time favorites.
Thanks for your kind review, and the gift of stars! I've been up since around 6am. Got up because my hip was aching. I can't lay in bed with pain. It gets a bit better when I start moving around.

I think everybody is naturally afraid of dragons naturally, so when on comes along one doesn't expect them to being kind and gentle creatures, but expects them to be fierce and damaging, but not this one, he was kind, a wonderful story in a poem, beautifully written Kim, blessings Roy

I don't know where I got the idea of a kind dragon. Things just come out as we write along, don't they? I never plan my poems or stories. They are spontaneous once I pick up a pen. Did you ever watch "Bonanza" back in the day? That western family of men was quite popular, running 14 seasons from 1959 to 1973. Lorne Green was the father, playing 430 episodes as Ben Cartwright. His sons were Adam Cartwright (played by Pernell Roberts), Eric "Hoss" Cartwright (played by Dan Blocker), and Joseph "Little Joe" (played by Michael Landon). "Hoss" was a huge man, but gentle as a lamb. Here's what they had to say about him:
"Hoss may be intimidating to anyone who first sets eyes on him but the expression "gentle giant" applies perfectly to his case. Hoss, quiet on the surface, deep down is loveable and gentle, loyal to a fault. However, those who mean harm to anyone or anything Hoss cares about will face his wrath."
Maybe that's where I got the idea of a gentle dragon.
Anyway, thanks for your kind review, Roy, and the gift of stars! And sorry for the late response. I've been dealing with a bad back/right hip since slipping in mud on the Grand Bay Trail on March 3rd. I can't sit in this chair very long, I'm afraid. My ranks in FS have slipped drastically!

(I don't normally revive any poems from past years, but I injured my lower back on March 3rd when I slipped in mud on the Grand Bay Trail. I'm sorry for being so late with this reply. I've been dealing with an aching hip since March 3rd when I slipped in mud on the Grand Bay Trail. So I can't sit in this chair very long. I've been using a heating pad or the magic bag to ease the pain.
It looks like you've been enjoying Fanstory! That's terrific. I've been a member since June of 2010, and that's the year I wrote "The Painter and the Dragon".

Although this reply is very late, it doesn't diminish the gratitude I feel for your most kind review and gifts of pumps, along with shiny stars. You are much too kind. But "Thank you!"
I am still nursing my lower back after that slip in mud on the Grand Bay Trail back on March 3rd. The aching seems to have settled in my right hip, and won't go away. I have been trying to use the magic bag or the heating pad. They help. I guess this is what old age is all about... aches and pain and pills. It sure has put a dent in my Fanstory hobby.
