Boy can I identify with this one! Gives rest to many, not just one! Good idea to count your blessings while you have the time and are sane (that is while the child sleeps!) Very intriguing!

True, Mystery Poet. There's nothing that seems more innocent, more pure, than the visage of a sleeping child. Unencumbered by worries, guilt, bigotry, hatred and fear, they sleep the sleep that we adults can only dream of.
Well done, and best of luck to you in the contest.

Very lovely tanka - soft, calming and sweet - the innocents that lay their heads upon a pillow, not only garner sleep but grant us a moment to see and realize our blessings and hopefully to protect them even more. AT=/

One cannot look at a sleeping child and not think of being blessed.
There is a feeling of peace and contentment just looking at the calmness surrounding the little one. We feel also for the sleeping child. Knowing that in her sleep, we imagine guardian angels watching over.

A sleeping child represents peace, trust, harmony, and safety. each child is a blessing and a vessel of wonder, love, curiosity, and hope for a brighter future. I live the photo, word choice, and message. thanks

great pairing with photo
you have good essence poem structure - both lines are six syllables
good end-line rhyme of rest/best and internal rhyme of slumber/numbered
nice alliteration in sweet slumber
and you paint a lovely picture with a tender tone
