HI Michael, sad thing is...so many don't care...our veteran's that fought and died for us...we were happy when they for fighting for our lives...but no one cares about theirs...and in our country Michael...doesn't matter who you are...if you don't have the money...insurance...they don't care...very very well expressed my friend...and the picture says it all...luff Linda xxoo

Mikey, this was a fascinating and poignant perspective - that of an indigent Nam vet. Very pertinent, also. Not only did you do a great job of depicting the suffering of those in the late stages of cancer, especially when one doesn't have access to pain meds, but you remind us of the grievous mistreatment of so many of our Vets. These diary entries seem to be leading to the death of this embattled cancer patient. Private Jones' slips into a dream state and will likely die. All of this visceral dialog within the diary screams of the disenfranchised from society. It's a powerful statement of how we soon forget and never forgive.

Unusual side to this thing. I am truly amazed at all the pieces and how each has taken a different slant. I've been busy with my grandbaby (thank you, Lord!) *smile* and hate I missed this one -- but on the other hand, maybe I'm not sorry -- this was a tough one.
I 'liked' the angle you've taken - totally different than the others I've read -- where their 'patient' was loved and cared for, yours is dying in anonymity and unkindness, making a whole new underlying statement for the readers. Great job.

If there was a lot of sand and some lousy cactus, it was my Lancaster in the Mojave Desert. If it was green with nice hills etc, it was Pennsylvania. LOL

I can walk out the front door and go hang out with homeless vets. It's a damn crime. There's so many that the little help we offer is a drop in the bucket. The red tape just to get what benefits and care IS available is absurd. Reams of forms to fill out to get eyeglasses etc. Well, however bad it is there, we're the worst. A tough topic, but some great pieces, yes? mikey

YES! For goodness sake, there sure isn't a chance to write anything very happy is there? Jeesh. Well, some good pieces were written though. I'm pleased with this though it really wasn't any great fun to write. It was a good learning experience.
