This is a fun read on the dangers of self medicating Craig and with really good flow to the lines. I found myself imagining the Vicar's expression. Enjoyed it,
cheers,

Thanks so much, Valda. I think it would be fun to see what his expression was like :) Cheers, Craig

Hi, Craig,
Yes, paregorics can be dangerous and they can be addicting. BUT, where would some of us be without these wonder drugs? The pain of my arthritis would keep me awake, and I wouldn't be able to walk at all.
So, I'm careful, and I don't drink alcohol at all while I'm taking the medication AND I just don't dance and sing as I used to...

haha,
I sued a pharmaceutical company once. I was on their tablets for about a week, and discovered when the course was finished, I couldn't play the violin.
If they hadn't got all technical and asked if I could play it before I took the tablets, I might have made a killing.

Paracetamol? Uhhhh, okee, dokee, if you say you need it, I will believe it because you have taught me yet ANOTHER word. (Yep, I Googled it. LOL)
You really must learn to dance though... The tips you earned can't feed half the herd!

I'll have you know I'm a superb dancer. Bus stop, chicken dance, hitchhiker, lawn sprinkler... I've mastered them all!
Thanks so much for the lovely shiny stars, Dawn :)

LOL. Lawn Sprinkler? Hahahahaha!

Hahaha how GOOD is THIS?!!!
A rip roaring verse in perfect tempo but with just enough chaotic content to have it all unravelling...not the meter, the content LOL and quite badly haha
You are SO funny Craig as you delivered the common outcome of people getting whacked out on medication and doing some strange and very silly things.
And then of course throwing a bit of grog into the mix haha...
A regretful outcome indeed and you may not be able to show your face for some time around town LOL
Loved the rhythm of this pear shaped tale.

More shiny stars? How do you do it?! (Don't stop, by the way lol)
Quite to the contrary, P, my face is always present around town - it's right there on the Post Office wall! (Oops, I wasn't supposed to let that out).
Many thanks, once again, for the great encouragement.
Comment from Gloria ....
Ha, this is fantastic, Craig. A lot of the reasons why a person might not want to imbibe too many of the distilled liquors because they cause all manner of stupid. Much better to take the paregoric if there isn't any garlic handy.
Excellent metre and rhyme and I got a big kick out of this poem. :)

Lol. Wonderful meter and rhyme and fun humor, Craig. But I had to look up paracetamol as here in the states we call acetaminophen, by its brand name, Tylenol, infamous for tampered bottles back in the 1980's.

It's usually called Panadol here, Helen, after the most popular brand; although we also have Tylenol. I thought using the generic name would be safer, but it turns out there's even two of those! Can't win. Thanks for the great review.

This is a fun read, Craig. You did a great job with the rhymes. The story told could be true. There are many who mix painkillers with alcohol and wonder why they act/feel bizarre, or worse. Good job and thanks for sharing. You are doing a great job with your project. Jan

In your definition there it should also include 'tastes disgusting' and 'can only be swallowed if the pain is bad enough you think you may die'!! :) :) LOL A fun and entertaining write that certainly puts a smile on the reader's face for the day -- thanx for that, sir! :) :) Yvette

Thanks, Yvette, for the great comments. I can chug down pretty much any tablet or capsule without water, as long as I don't chew it lol

What a fun read this is, Craig! I love the humor, and many of the lines made me laugh. The whole poem is terrific, but special stand-outs for this reader are:
"I sang a bawdy song in finest voice,
the second time I sang it with a snicker" ... lol
&
"The Vicar's wife, I thought, required romancing" ... too funny!
In conveying the meaning of the word "paregoric", you created quite a character and a great poem. Very well written and presented. Thanks for starting my morning out on a high note and for teaching me a new word(s) -- I also didn't know what "parcetamol" was til I googled it.
Cheers,
Connie

What wonderful comments, Connie. If it wasn't for Vicars and their wives, I'd hardly have any material ;-) (Just kidding, I think this is only my first or second, but I must use them much more lol). I'm so grateful for the shiny stars, though I have no idea how you came to have them so late in the week. Many, many thanks. Craig
-
lol
Re having shiny stars left at the end of the week ... I don't get very much time lately to read/review, as I'm back studying again. Once January rolls around I hope to have more time again. :)

This is a humorous warning to us all about mixing drugs with alcohol and how drunken actions cause shame and pain. It seems the should of stayed home if he
was sick enough to need the medication. But then there would have been no need for this funny ode to the occasion.
Keep writing
