I am truly snared as the action, suspense and mystery lift higher yet again.
Clever suspenseful writing has drawn the reader further into the mystery and eager to see what happens next.
Blessings

Glad that I?m still able to keep you guessing! Tony.
Comment from Gloria ....
I much enjoy the banter that rapidly changes into the seriousness of their predicament. Thank goodness Helen Madame Durand are experienced in the face of this kind of danger.
Great job.

Now that I've got the Mafia involved, I'm not sure how I'm going to get rid of them! I'm hoping that Charles and Helen will be able to sort that out for me in due course - if they survive, of course!
Comment from Lady Jane
Jeanne was(,) by now(,) making noises that suggested she would rather like to be released.
Oh, wow...I love the Thai classes and how she came to be a defender of self...this is building up quite nicely, dear. The excellent, crisp dialogue, the ample content that grants the reader a glimpse into the lives, minds, and attributes of each character, the vibrant imagery...all compose a cohesive chapter worthy of a six. By far, this is my favorite chapter thus far. The consistently steady flow and immaculate writing is why I award you this six. I am in awe of your talent. Keep em coming :)

Wonderfully told! This is your best installment yet! I'm glad I saved a sixer for you. Thrilling, suspenseful, confession of love and life saved and spared. What more could a reader want?
All my best,
Sally

Very many thanks indeed, Sally, both for your enthusiastic comments and for the six stars! Much appreciated, as always. It sounds as if I may need to put my thinking cap on, if I'm to maintain the momentum! All the best, Tony

A most interesting mystery story that I have just caught up with. I especially liked the self-defence class (having done judo and karate many moons ago.) I like stories that have a narrator e.g Kathy Reichs does all her narrating; makes for a better understanding of the plots and characters. Well done my friend.

-Please accept a virtual six
for this chapter, Tony.
-It was well written and progressed
well, as we catch up with Helen,
and learn of her experience.
-In addition, we learn about
Jeanne's unfortunate situation.
-I just got this image in my
head of Charles being a sort of
Bond type, as he came to the
rescue of these women.
-A love story begins between
Charles and Helen, when before
it was a physical attraction.
-That, and the ending with the
Bangkok reference, should make
for good upcoming adventures.

Thanks, Pam. Charles seems to have surpassed himself this time! Perhaps there is more to him than meets the eye. Mind you, he did have a bit of help! All the best, Tony

You are welcome, Tony. There does seem to be more to Charles than we thought. I wonder who was behind that?! Now the challenge is surpassing this:)

Hello Tony,
The plot thickens, the romance thickens
The heartbeat quickens,
The Corsican mafia, the art of the eight limbs,
Yikes! This is no place for chickens
Muay Thai, Oh my
and now we're going back to Bangkok
Land of narrow doorways
Excellent chapter for the book, professional.
Well done, no sixes
Robert

I like the connection between recycling and the rag and bones mans. A lot of humorous banter in spite of the dangerous situation. I find it a pleasant relief from the clichéd crime story.
Favorites:
you've become my very favourite umbrella.
Jeanne was by now making noises that suggested she would rather like to be released.
I have fallen in love with Helen...
"Charles, you are an ass. You might have told me! A woman likes to know these things."
I'm not sure what you call this device: understatement?

Thanks, Shari. I'm glad you are enjoying this, and I'm delighted that you think it worth a sixth star. Most affirming! For what it's worth, there are two literary terms for understatement: meiosis and litotes. The latter being used when a negative is involved i.e. that's not bad.
-
Wow. Never heard those terms in all my literary courses. Thanks for expanding my word power. :-)

At last there isc an unravelling of the plot, and the mysteriousness once pervading is opening up the plot, so, apart from the literary lures of your writing Tony, there was nothing to link with the "Corsican Mafia". So, now, Charles is being filled in by Madame Durand and Helen. Well done, good scribing, blessings, Roy

At last we seem to be on the threshold of finding the connection between France and the Orient, and the French Mafia is mixed up in it too; along with Helen and Durand. The plot thickens. I think you had some good descriptions of the scene of the rescue, it was very visual and I could see it like it was on TV. The dialogue was crisp, and a bit emotional. As it needed to be. The connection between Charles and Helen, a romantic connection, now seems more vital to the story. Issues of trust and dedication come to the fore. An interesting chapter, and I can't wait to see where you go with it. estory

Thanks, estory. The re-introduction of Madame Durand may prove to be pivotal.
