Well, isn't this just a dismal picture to paint this morning?

But, the reality is so true. I love this word, but I'm not sure how I can use it. It is almost too archaic to be used in a present-day story.

Thanks so much, Patty. Quite a few people seem to think this is really dark and depressing. Strangely, I didn't have that frame of mind when I wrote it, I was just looking for another things we all experience at one time or another, and that word seemed appropriate. Many thanks, Craig

I have never heard betrayal in the mix with death and taxes. Seems reasonable though. Sort of cynical. Maybe we can dread only a small betrayal.

Perhaps I need a definition. Maybe depending on that, I might agree. People in relationships always have so many opportunities to forgive but am not sure that the infractions would be considered "betrayal."

How about being betrayed by a political party that promises to deliver something very important, but doesn't? Or an insurance company that weasels out of a deserved payment? Or any number of service companies that don't deliver what they promise? Or a betrayal of the trust of a child and their parents by a cleric or schoolteacher? There are countless ways to be betrayed.

Hi Craig. Life is an adventure, that's for sure. So true, live long enough and we will experience all. A big part of my spiritual philosophy is reincarnation. The theory is that before we are finished with our "lives" we must experience all by walking in the other guy's shoes. Those things we are most averted to are the ones we need to experience first hand. I guess next time around I'll be a liberal. Loved the new word for today stone-ginger. I believe your poem is quite prophetic. I know that we all die and pay taxes, and most of us if we "life long enough" do experience betrayal as well.
