Great poem, This is a very well crafted. I thought you were being a bit vixenish and then the last stanza. Sorry it took so long for me to review this I have been and will be busy traveling for the next month and a half. All this in a minute:-) nicely done and congrats!

I can't tell you how much this poem touched my whole soul. You can definitely tell you had to endure some pain and suffering at this time when you wrote it. Now look at the individual people, including myself, whom you have touched their hearts and surely stirred up old pain I definitely know about. Writing is a blessed gift from God and an art Truly well done

Wow, JessAnn -- thank you so very much for those wonderful stars, ma'am -- they are truly a wonderful surprise!! ;) ;) And I am so very glad that my words resonated with you... it is honestly the highest compliment a poet can receive to know that their words stirred something strong in their reader! ;) ;) Thank you for taking the time to review this and be sure to stop by any time to just browse and read! ;) :) Take care and have a wonderful week, ma'am!! ;) :) Yvette

Okay, Trisha -- you have now officially made my entire and week and then some -- oh my goodness, THANK You!! ;) ;) I am so very glad that this one moved you, ma'am -- As I said in the Au-Ns, I wrote this one a while back in preparation for the tidal wave of May.... so glad I did, but when I pulled it up from the files to post, I actually thought "wow, now that's a bit depressing, Yvette!"... :) ;) Buuuut... sad emotion is an aspect of human emotion and this is poetry sooooo, voila! ;) :) Thanx again for these lovely stars, ma'am -- and may you have a sunshiny week ahead!! :) ;) Yvette

This sounds like a person being haunted by an old love. Or a ghost that can't cross totally over to the other side because of what her living spouse
said at her funeral. Either way it is sad.
Congratulations of placing first in the contest.
Keep writing

Thank you so very much for letting me in on your interpretation possibilities, Joan -- that means so very much as feedback to myself as a poet because it helps me see the picture my words can paint for others (I already know what I was trying for so it's best to know when/if they work -- LOL!!).
Thank you for your review...it is always good to hear from the 'Dragon Poet'! ;) ;) Take care out there! ;) ;) Yvette

You are so very welcome, Yvette. I like hearing how others interpret my words too. I am happy whether they understand my meaning or find their own.

Gosh Yvette, another winner for you.! Congrats! This poem touched my heartstrings. Missing that other half is for sure a heart-wrenching adjustment. I have only had to adjust to my cat crossing the pet rainbow bridge. . .and that was difficult. She was a good friend and companion.
I have deposits in heaven too but no one can walk in someone else's shoes. Loved the poem and the artwork, so happy you received a First place award.

I think this poem, particularly in that last broken line, really captures the feeling of losing someone you love, losing a relationship. you spell out those feelings, and also of reaching out at that grave and not being able to reconnect, even though you hope for it. Very poignant. estory

We are inevitably linked to our past. It is all we know, so how could it be otherwise. And yet, though it brings us hurt at times, we remain thankful for the time we had. Loved the painting by the way. Continued success with your "recovery" and may it always be so, spiced with sweet memories. Loren

"Still", is an extremely well-written and delightfully-descriptive piece. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. I look forward to seeing your next post.
