Wow, Gary, what a chilling picture to go along with your poem. Such sadness and pain in that little boys eyes, and rightly so, I would imagine. He looks as if the whole world has just been ripped out from underneath him. It quite literally was, most likely.
You've captured the essence of despondency, fear and terror the residents of London must have felt during the Nazi Luftwaffe blitz during the early stages of WWII. We can only imagine such fear here, in the present day United States, thankfully. Hopefully, no one will ever know such terror on a massive scale as this, ever again in the annuls of history.
Well done, Gary...

My pleasure.

This poem and it's telling picture remind us of one of our wars and the devastation to families and children. Moments etched forever in people's minds of doubtful and desperate survival among the ruins of all that one knows.

I have no idea why a god that favors war (or they would not exist) should care much about the insignificant detail of a few folks' tragic experiences with it.
Your free verse poem is well written and does evoke disdain for war and pity for the innocent who experience fear and tragedy. If flows well as well.

Hi GW,
Your poem is written really well, like always. The story of people having to sleep in cupboard, under the skies is sad. So nice that you wrote it for Edith Dalling and her daughter who actually had to go through this.

And Hitler's twisted rage turned fury from RAF airstrips and radar stations to the civilians and London, and their bleeding cost him the Battle of Britain. A fine scary
poem,this one.

A terrible atrocity to live through with children--a time in their young lives they will never forget.
Good enjambments and areas of alliteration noted.

A memorial and remembrance of the dark days of another man's insanity displayed in way, tormenting everyone, even innocent kids that knew not what the mess was all about. I think the poem is most relevant now in the face of wanton destruction that still becloud the world today. Good imagery and flow.

deepwater,
Another great expression of history set to poetic verse. Vivid scenes and well paced thrust of emotion as well as personal commentary woven together.
Chalk up another hit!
