I don't think that this passes as a piece of poetry. So I review it as a short story or statement on life and jiving. A good food for thought and Philosophical write. I love the title The Dying Art of Compassion. Thanks. Emeka

This really touched me in more ways then one. I had to do that very same thing to my own mother who was a poison in my life. We all need to be accountable of whom we hurt, and to have the strength to walk away. This was a beautiful way to explain life. I loved it...

The words written here are true to life. As a babe enters the word, he/she is devoid of any knowledge of what will be. Through life's journey we have few true friends and many fair-weathered ones, then at the end of the journey we have wisdom, it's too bad the young don't listen and heed the wisdom of the elder....they could learn so much.

I think sometime success is when something horrible in life happens, one picks themselves up and tries again. I enjoyed reading your post. I am not sure it's a poem though.

Hi Deepwater. I enjoyed reading this introspective poem/essay from you.
I can relate to that, and I got to a point recently that's what I did, and it worked. I came to realize that happiness is a choice.
Thank you for sharing. Well written.

Reading this actually reminds me of my life. I was born and raised in a small town in Ohio. In 1985, I moved my family to Las Vegas. Huge difference in people; they can be here one day gone the next. I became wary of people; very untrusting. I did make friends with a couple of guys that were their when I needed help or just someone to hang out with. Then nearly 2 years ago, I moved back home alone and found how things really changed. People that I was close to and had kept in touch with over the years, were no longer available to me. The reason I discovered was because I am single. A very sad reason to turn ones back on someone who had been a friend since before high school. My conclusion that it is their loss.. You bring out many thought of friendships and life itself. Thank you for sharing these thoughts with us,,,,,,,Jim

We have to walk away from hurt and drama, and when we do, we are true to the self. This is a wise write about making a choice to live, rather than exist. This reminds me of a saying: don't stay where you're tolerated, go where you're celebrated. Well said.

This is really well written, the words, very meaningful. I agree, we need true friends who are there for you as much we are there for them. No half measures, you are either a friend or you're not. Life speeds along, From day one of your life, you are beginning to die. Awful thought, but I sit here, old, and have no idea where the time went! Great read! xsx Sandra

the in-between is the dying art of compassion with flexibility and accountability to others that cross your path between the parts of life we know as birth and death.
Words of wisdom with perfect title Really well done Blessings,Rouskin

I enjoyed reading your explanation and thoughts on the subject of the "Dying Art". As you said, if we can surround ourselves with friends and companions that make you feel that you're actually loved and cared for while we're here, death wouldn't be hard to deal with at all. Welcome back. Bill
