I don't know if other people will see or think about this as I do ..

I did not get on well with my mum. We were both stubborn, obstinate individualists.

But I do remember many times when I went home with sand in my hair, even as I went to bed, and how much I appreciated the clean sheets.

Sometimes, many times really, my mum made me change the sheets myself. But sometimes I went home tired, happy and with sand in my hair, and I knew that sometimes my mum changed my bed just a few minutes before I got into it.

The best thing about a day at the beach is knowing that your parent's made it possible and then made the hole day, right up to the last minute, the best day they could make it.

The beach is such an awesome wonder in itself. The added extras are the castles and most importantly is the ice cream. I can remember climbing into bed after a day at the beach, supper and a bath. The cool sheets ended my day with happiness. Nicely done, Thank you

Going into adulthood, we all still have the child in us.

So the author writes about childhood dreams and memories. Just close your eyes and picture your childhood running days. The scenes will open up vividly as on a big screen. Change channel? As quickly as you wish. "...I drift off to see the wonders, for free."

Though by actions we are all hesitant to play the child, our longings from time to time make us subconsciously speak, "How I wish I were a child again."

This is undoubtedly written in a light mood. But child-like or childish, we as adults should not be ashamed of acting out the child in us.

I'll tell ya', Gary, ladies bathing suits and men's and boy's swimming trunks sure have come a long way, haven't they?

Who doesn't (or at least hasn't) enjoyed a wonderful day on the beach, either as a child, or later on in life? For those who have not, you give them a little "slice" of what to expect, should they ever decide to finally do so.

Since my family & I moved back to Ohio in 2012, I can honestly say that the single thing I miss about living in Virginia Beach, VA, and Norfolk, is our times spent on the beaches there. As we stand in front of the vastness and enormity of the ocean, we see how truly insignificant we are in the scope of things here on planet Earth.

Well done!

Loved the photo - Really, if I could enjoy summers now the way I did when it was all Black & White - I'd look forward farm more often to the heat and humidity.

Great nostalgic look back - I did enjoy the read. AT=/

Oh, wonderful the childhood memories, easy thoughts, the daydreams, the donkey rides, the sand castles and swimming, mum's cooking, and days spent in play! This is well written memory provoking work, that takes one back to one's childhood, hence great projected imagery, well done Blessings, Roy.

Oh, the carefree days of childhood. Good description, with 'deep just to the knee.' Loved the sane castle building with Dad...Nice poem!

This is a very well written poem. The subject matter is simple, yet your descriptions are vivid. A summer's day at the beach, especially when you're a kid, is something everyone can relate to. Well done.

A very well crafted work. I can feel the carefree days of a lazy summer in every line. When a young man, all I wanted was make to summer and relax. The wind, the waves and yes, even the birds seem to be happy too. Well done.
