this is a powerful poem and statement or question that has yet to be answered. i agree that we are losing touch with each other and gaining what in exchange. it's hard to tell

Hi deepwater,
I like the thought in this piece. There must be a plethora of things that are passed down through the ages but never written for all to see. My father always gave good advice that couldn't be found in any book. I have never forgotten his sage remarks. A good poem and one I enjoyed....chey

Great poem about tacit knowledge. I studied Innovative Manufacturing Managemnet at Masters level and beleive it or not there is a field of study called Knowledge Management and one of the issues dealt with is 'how do we pass on tacit knowledge from experienced workers to trainees' (share tacit knowledge), and how do we collect Tacit knowledge for future workers to use - I found it very interesting, hope this of interest to you too.
Ofcourse two of the main ways people used to pass on tacit knowledge was through stories, and passing knowledge of local crafts to their children. This just does not happen so much nowadays. It is sad really.
Anyway, good poem with an interesting and important message. Great! - Cally :)

Oral history remains important to our culture. However great message that we need to take time to record our thoughts and experiences or otherwise we as a society will be doomed to repeat it.

will this generation pass the secrets of our forefathers foreword to be carried over to their sons? (This is a very good question, because I teach first grade and it's been my experience that parents aren't passing things down to their children any longer, because they are too busy to take time to talk to their children.)

Who knows what wisdom will be past from one to another. I hope it is the wisdom of kindness and caring. Although to day's children are neither.

This is a very interesting message. The real truth of our heritage is best passed from father to son. This defeats those who would rewrite history for political reasons. So, I certainly hope the oral tradition remains alive. Well written and thought provoking. Well done.

A very good, well written poem about carrying on secrets from our forefathers to the sons in future families. The picture of a man and his son goes with it.

Maybe The Indians, or primitive people, or those who care to preserve their moral values, those that not ride the wave of (modern) times.
Nice written.
