Great poem. Very sad, but deed. I have a suggestion though. Is there supposed to have been a comma after the word high??
..carries me high warm smiling faces with glows in their eyes...

Your poem sounds so peaceful, compared to the violent storm, sinking of the boat and eventual death. It's a time that seems to roll in slow motion from a person who sounds like he's accepted his fate and is ready to e peace. - Thesis

deepwater, my greatest fear is drowning. It almost happened 46 yrs ago. I never put myself in a position to experience what you have just written about. This scared the hell out of me.
Such a powerful, realistic piece of writing that put the thought in my head, "stay off any boat that sails in water in water more than 5 feet deep." thanks for this................jim

This is a powerful and inspirational poem, free verse, with the battle to fight the storm. Lost the battle, but won the fight. Home, at peace, in God's grace.
of love[d] ones I leave far be
Warmest regards

This is a great poem which tell us about a storm in the middle of the ocean. The imagery is perfect, I can feel the fear and can imagine the last moments. It also has a nice end which shows the author's faith.
Congratulations!

Hi there, this one sure gives a clear account of the sea, making me all the more fearful of it! Ha, I am a landlubber for sure! I am reminded of a favorite movie of mine, "The Piano" starring Holly Hunter...good work Gary. Susan

I really enjoyed this poem. I found myself engrossed in the journey described in your poem. The fear and desperation felt resonate off the page. Then finally, the acceptance and peace of the inevitable outcome.

I am assuming this is written from the eyes of a sea creature, perhaps a fisherperson, residing upon and around the shores that the Gulf oil spill has devastated. It is moving and quite humbling- which is what this whole debacle has done to us. Now the Brits are pissed at us. How dare we complain!
