Such a heartfelt tribute to your friend. Great writing that reaches out and touches the reader. I wish you and your friend all the best in the world. I am glad that you reconciled.

Janilou, I don't know how or why I have been missing your posts, but I have. It's good to see your name again.
Loved your story if that's an appropriate choice of words. Forgiveness comes hard sometimes. My husband died four years ago and I'm still trying to forgive. I do well for awhile and then, like you said, some little whiff of memory opens the wounds again. You're right, time doesn't always heal. Maybe some day I can conquer like you have.
Thank you for sharing, pat

I don't blame you for what you did. It must have hurt you a great deal. The only thing I say is, you have a big heart to forgive her and forgive yourself.
Not an easy situation to be in.
Very well put.

A very interesting story. Sometimes we don't know when we should let go of things. Even to the point of loss. I have done this myself and regretted it.

Wow. That is a very powerful piece, Jan. It provides a good look into our human frailties and emotions, that foster our own insecurities.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Humans make mistakes, but our relationships are based on trust. It appears the other woman was not thinking of how a relationship with your ex would hurt you.
Either way, the situation (like most involving relationships) got out of control. At least, now, you can have closure to your open wound. - Thesis

You tell this story so well. The developing friendship, the ongoing interdependance, and finally the sense of betrayal.
It is odd, but we humans find it very difficult to get over the hurdle of a perceived betrayal, whether real or imaginary. Most people can relate to your story in one way or another, I am sure. I know that I certainly can, and I have heard of so many similar circumstances, with reconciliation only coming at a moment of crisis.
Your story is touching and carries a very important moral.

I think today is the day to shower six stars...lol...
Inexplicably amazing....
What an imagery...goshhh..I'm spellbound...
The piece is didactic with different shades, shades of love,pain,forgiveness...
U have done your best to exhibit the weird and strange feelings of the complicated human heart...
"They say time heals all wounds, but it isn't true. Time buries wounds, until a word spoken, a whiff of memory, tears open the wound, and the pain surfaces as though time itself dissolved into yesterday. One never really forgets. "...
So true...
"Why did it take that phone call to realize I still do?"...
Beautiful!
"In the end, your friendship now may be the only thing that can ease my pain"...
Truly commendable!
Well done!
Keep it up!
God bless you!

This is a great entry! It dissolved me into tears. The picture of the pain and suffering and loss of friendship was very evocative. The ending was so bittersweet. Keep up the excellent work. It is so heartmoving.

This is heart-wrenching. I am teary-eyed, not only for you but for myself. For all the friendships I let slip away because of petty things. I hope this well-written story is a lesson to everyone who reads it. I hope the writing of it has helped you in some way. Thank for sharing.

this story made me sit up. it
gave me goose bumps. i remember
the day my sister phoned to say
she'd been diagnosed with cervical
cancer. there is no way to describe
the array of feeling. you did this
very well and handled the delicate
subject with tact. enjoyed the read.
