A worthy lesson and good message of self-love and satisfaction with your achievements and life. Few can say they "did it their way". I enjoyed this free verse.
Well penned. luv jada

How true , life is a constant quest, and you expressed wonderfully and deeply the human condition.
Only to bet your soul against the human unknown,
Seeking intimate wealth in the company of friends,
To experience lust, love, anger, tears and pain
Only to survive to see another moonlit night alone,

Hello deepwater,
now here is a free verse poem that tells us to learn to love ourselves so we can love our fellow man
Perfect of what you say here -
to be able to say, I am my best friend,
As I look down the farthest side of my life with age,
Gert

A great message to go out and experience life, no matter what it throws at you. There's no worse feeling than going through life with the eternal line, "if only I'd .. A marvellous verse in its simplicity. Best wishes, RobertoK.

This is an excellent work, GW, well crafted with well chosen words and superb imagery. And your lines flow so nicely. I also love the message: While exploring the road life, we should not be afraid to take a chance. The most touching lines:
Only to survive to see another moonlit night alone,
Then will you be at peace with yourself
Thank you for sharing and posting it. Warmest wishes,

I'm generally not the biggest fans of pieces without a rhyme scheme, but your words were chosen with care, and your point came across well. I can't say I felt any hiccups, or offer any suggestions. I offer five stars, and I hope to see more soon.

How true it is that as we look at our lives we find that true happiness comes only if we are happy within ourselves and really love ourselves. Not a narcissistic love but one that treats us the way we deserve to be treated. Only with that self respect and love can we expect others to love and value us in return. This is a great piece. Thanks for sharing.

You created a good case for being alone and being your own best friend and not needing anyone else. I still believe everyone's life is richer with one best friend though. Good imagery and thought provoking.
