Another poem reminding us that Christmas is different this year; it is disappointing to not be able to share it with those family members, especially the kids. The image of the presents all wrapped up under the tree, with no one to open them, is quite poignant. estory

estory, Merriest of Yuletide memories!
Comment from Susan X Smith
This is a timely poem about the holidays during the pandemic. I love the rhyme scheme, especially in the first line of each stanza. In addition, the poem has a nice lilt to it and the picture is a good complement.

This is the best season to be spending time with family and loved ones. But alas, the world is hit by the pandemic and we should all strive to defeat it for all time to come. Let's hope and prey that this too shall pass. I enjoyed reading the well-written poem. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Seshardi, thank you, Be well!
Comment from Gloria ....
You set the scene just right for this most cozy work of art, J. The tree, hearth and fire all decorated and ready to share, but for the virus this year.
An excellent contribution to the club and a fine read today.

Ah, that's the problem, isn't it? We can do all the outward trimmings of Christmas but most of us are missing the joyous times with our relatives. We haven't seen our grandchildren since last Christmas. Thanks for expressing it well in these tercets!

Your writing is so touching, I too, had to drop a tear. The good old days are just a memory now, but hopefully will return next year. Thank you for the touching post.

Rebeccca, thanks and yes all this shall pass.

Your poem is excellent in every respect--skillfully-composed and vividly descriptive of preparations joyfully made for that special annual get-together, foiled by the pandemic!

Comment from Ben B.
Great job keeping up with your rhyme scheme and more so for the Christmas atmosphere. What exactly did you mean by "...the children checked Silent Night" though?

Ben probably needed to put a period after checked. As if played, or even checked to see if we had the words to the songs.
Comment from Anne Johnston
A good picture of what many homes will be like this year. This will be the first Christmas I have spent alone, so it will be quite different. But we can be thankful for the technology that is available, like Zoom, to get together in a different way.

Anne, we are in the same predicament -- We have always traveled to the grandchildren on rotating Christmases for years and years.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas

Hi, Jim This looks like a real winner to me in your contest. I used to write all kinds of poetry, but it has been ages. Looking at yours prompts me tom give it a go again. Merry Christmas and Good Luck. Bob
