Since everyone is always telling their own stories, which doesn't do a damn thing to make a cancer patient feel any better, I haven't wanted to share with you my own past woes. But, over the last four years, I have have had four tumors removed from my spine, one from my hand, and a malignant melanoma from my back. With the melanoma, they took off a slap of meat resembling a 22oz fillet, to make sure they got it all. Like you, I have spent many hours, days, and years in the sun. Luckily, so far, none of the other tumors were malignant, and there's been no signs of metastasis. I am only telling you this because, as bad as it is, basal cell tumors are many times removed without future problems. I'm wishing you the best! And you are in my thoughts and prayers daily! Ric

Guess what we are experiencing comes with the territory of getting older. Sounds like you have been through quite an ordeal. Believe we will both be okay in the end.

What unpleasant news for you to take in. Twenty stitches--that sounds like a lot. Any type of cancer is so devious, you don't know what to expect with it, unfortunately. It doesn't leave willingly. My husband has had skin cancer on his hand and on his nose. He hasn't been outdoors much in recent years, but he used to spend a lot of time boating and swimming. I wonder if many people realize how serious skin cancer can be. All the best to you, and I hope you get the procedure you mentioned done sooner rather than later.

Thank you so much for the information. I've been praying for you. Ric told me about your cancer in a back and forth fan mail. We are all so concerned about you and praying. We have an unofficial pray chain here and have many on the list. I take cancer very seriously because I've had four members of my family die from aggressive forms of cancer. My brother-in-law just this week. My sister Suzy is my only sister and she is devastated. He put off going to the doctor and getting a diagnosis. Thank you again for sharing and I will keep up my prayers.
Sending my very best today and God's richest blessings of peace and healing be upon you right now, Brett,
Sally :)

My thoughts will be with you. I just had one removed two weeks ago, the doctor, she got it way early, but will be checked every 3 months. At age 75, I told her I did not go out in the sun, I learned long ago (as a red head who sunburned easily not to do that), so how did this develop? She said, as you found out, the exposure was years ago, just takes time to percolate. Thank you for spreading the word!

This gloomy entry wrings pity from my stubborn mind. I hope, as you seem to, that it helps someone stave off this troublesome affliction. I wish you the best of luck.

Brett,
Given your circumstances, it is very thoughtful of you to warn others of the early signs of this kind of skin cancer. Some are more subtle than others, and can be confused with a variety of benign skin growths that seem to plague us all as we age. I'd like to add that an annual skin check by a dermatologist is a very good idea for early recognition. I will pray for your complete recovery.

Thank you for sharing your story. I cannot imagine what you're going through, but I am grateful for the warning signs, so I can keep an eye out. I hope you get better news soon.
