What fabulously descriptive lines! " The roiling seas falls still" what a perfect word roiling is!!! A sober grey tone throughout this poem has a lighter resolution with the "joy filled birth of an angel of light" you could have stopped at angel but "light" brings the hope and brightens the tone for the end. Beautifully written and full of emotion.

Thanks, Karyn, I do try not to let a poem finish on a downbeat!

This is a beautiful free verse entrant for the contest, Steve. I was thinking of the different poets fan story has lost as I read this. Words go into mourning but the angels rejoice for another member, nicely put. Cheers

Hi, Valda. Yes, too many have passed. I reviewed a poem about dandelions today and my thoughts immediately went to Adewpearl. What a huge loss it was to the site when she left us.

Yes I always think of her if I see dandelions.

A marvelous description in free verse of the emotions accompanying loss. The loss of a poet is elevated to a special place through the personification of forests, words and seas. I thought this was extremely beautiful. Perhaps my most favorite lines were these:
"Our once chattering lives
now hang silent,
bereft of speech, de-tongued by tragedy."
That is a perfect description of how I felt when my sister died unexpectedly last May.
Thank you so much for this. I really liked it. MM

Thanks, Adonna. You are right that we reach an age where attending funerals becomes far too common. I appreciate the kind words and the sixth star.

Well, I see you have another winning poem. I have no doubt the writers and poets that make up the secret committee will relate and see themselves or their recently passed friends within these well crafted words.
Well done, and congrats on the win.

Thanks, Lance - for your great confidence in congratulating me on a win that is far from certain.
I believe that you are right that certain themes resonate with both reviewers and judges and poems that revolve around the topic of writing are just one example.

Ah, yes, the world is indeed poorer when we lose a poet, mourning the words not written, the words not read. Your use of metaphor is so lyrical. Well done.

Kiwisteveh,
In praise and tribute to the glory of the magical use of words. The breathing of sorrow and sadness is outweighed by the flight of angels. Lovely poem.

This is lovely, my friend! I understand completely how the world of words ends when a poet dies. You describe it perfectly. I hope you win the free verse contest as you capture the essence of the world's spirit when you ponder the significance of a poet's death.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful gift.

Thanks, Jesse. Exaggeration, perhaps, but what else is poetry for?
