That should get it done. One way or another. Amazing how things can slip into stuff like this. Best to you in the contest. I see nothing wrong. I hope you win.

Thanks for reviewing this silly post. I knew the girl who embarrassed herself by making this mistake but back in the 60's we weren't so familiar with either of those words. Thanks for the stars.

I think he must have meant, cremated probably, not castrated. Ouch! So glad this is flash fiction although this could be anybody's daily news. The cold weather is not always a good thing for health.

Rosemary thank you for the review and comments. It is had to get anything across with so few words. The wasn't really familiar with either of the words in the 60's and she said the wrong one. When she realized what she had said she was very embarrassed.

LOL... Okay I laughed out loud this time. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I needed a good laugh today. You told a complete story with all the necessary elements and used only a few words. I'm impressed. I can't do that. Good luck with the contest.

Thank you, Barbara. I'm trying to learn how to say something with fewer words. It isn't easy to be brief. I'm not a big talker but apparently my fingers are. I appreciate the review.

Fine and fantastic plan, just to keep her grandfather's ashes in a vase, saving money, time and energy, so no funeral was to be performed; well said, Never lose gifted moments; read, write, review, post more, ALCREATOR LITT DEAR (DR) FEBRUARY

Can see how the word "castrated" could cause "inappropriate laughter".
What does that say about what high school students learn? At that age, and even back then, apparently not much.
Also would make one wonder where the minds, and thoughts, of her supposedly adult co-workers were?
Hand-counted 75 words. So, in that regard meets the word requirement of the contest.

Thanks Brett, Back in the sixties neither of those words was something we were exposed to very often. She was humiliated when she realized what she'd said. Hardly anyone was cremated in our town back then.

Whoops! Inappropriate laughter would
be hard to contain under the circumstances
and how embarrassing for her. I didn't
see anything wrong and I will take your
word count as true. Well done Beth. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy. This naive girl was real. She told me about how embarrassed she was when it she finally understood what she has said wrong.

What a great read. I'm still smiling as I'm writing this review. Yup, quite the difference in word definition.
Best of luck in the contest.
Cheers to the dictionary.

This seventy-five-word flash fiction story, A Little Late for That, Maybe, has a funny malapropism. Otherwise, I too would want the 'castration' to be done after I was dead.

Thank you, Bill. I appreciate the review and comments. If it had to be done, it would be a lot less painful that way.

This gave me a hearty laugh that was much needed. Poor Grandfather, I can't imagine what the funeral director would think if such a request was made. The funeral director obviously had a better grasp of vocabulary than than Becky. Thanks for the chuckle.

You are welcome. I've told this story to two of my friends who also got quite a laugh out of it.
