You make it sound like the perfect baseball experience with all the food and the fans enjoying the game. Being there in person sounds delightful. I am glad the weather was good for the game. What a wonderful birthday gift for you, and sounds like good company with your wife and son.

I see The Judge is off to a great start. Two dingers in three games, could it be he'll hit 100 plus if he keeps the pace.
Dandy Don, I watched him when he was young play in Greensboro, NC.
For 47$ did you think of hiring a Uber. Ouch.
And I'd be like your pops. Sushi. A mortal sin at the home Ruth built and George rebuilt.

Wonderful! Your passion for the game and love of the food shines through clearly in each line!

I must say I'm not a big baseball fan (forgive me please). I'm more of a football girl myself, but I have very fond memories of going to the Salt Lake City minor league baseball games, (known at the time as the Buzz but now known as the Bees), with my mother and siblings when I was a kid. The sun on your face and the joy of the game! I can definitely see why you love it! The environment and energy is difficult to match.

I had no idea there were that many food options at a major league stadium! What an interesting detail.

The description of the drive, the parking lot ritual, the photos and the chants and salutes gives such a strong sense of your joy in the game and in sharing it with your family! Well done!

Thank you for sharing!

Thank you, Amanda. I?m a big football fan (NY Jets) but a bigger baseball nut!
I?ve read articles about good venues at many major league parks, and it?s mouthwatering. My youngest son worked for the Jacksonville Jaguars for about two years as their Special Events chef.

    Thanks for reading.

You made this whole trip sounds so exciting John, I felt I was there with you. That was a hefty parking fee! They know how to charge when people have nowhere else to park. Then the food! I of course liked your wife's choice best. Then finally the game which is the whole point of the trip! The rain managed to save itself for the ride home. Loved this post and I enjoyed the whole experience, love Dolly x

I have only one question, WHO won. (Sall right, just read your notes, the visitors triumphed 7-5. Sorry about that.) Already I know the fast-food stalls finished with your money. And the weather held off. Hope, despite the result you had a great day. And long live the Yankees.

It was a fun day outside of the loss. I wanted to make the story more about the experience.
Thank you so much for reading.
    Are you a Yankees fan?

In honesty the only thing I know about American football is the name Babe Ruth. It was a solid write.

You gave readers a great rundown of the day, John. I
enjoyed reading it. I liked the info about the players.
your trip to the stadium, and the food items. I wouldn't
like having to find my car among all those leaving--47,00
is a lot of people. The food choices sounded great--most of
them--hold the sushi.

May I suggest ~

On Thursday(,) the New York Yankees won their season opener against the San Francisco Giants, 5-0, with a spectacular pitching performance from there (their) ace, Gerrit Cole.

We left at 1:00 for the sixty minute [ dash after sixty ] drive from New Jersey to New York's Yankee stadium.
The sixty [add a dash here ] minute excursion stretched to almost eighty.

We pulled into the parking garage, at 161st Street. Proceeded to chug down a beer, paid the kings [King's ] ransom of $47 to park the car and walked across the street and into Yankee Stadium, sometimes referred to, The House That Ruth Built.

Seeing the gritty Yankee captain, and All [add dash here ] Star catcher Thurman Munson in a photo before his tragic death in 1979, to my favorite Yankee of all time, #23, Don Mattingly, to me is a part of baseball history and Yankee lore.

Now your [ Now, you're ] able to order sushi, (my father-in-law would turn in his grave if he knew sushi was served), cheese steak sandwiches made with black angus rib eye, (I won't tell you the cost of the sandwich), gyros, burritos, garlic bread, chicken tenders and waffles, burrata burger, steak topped fries, lobster mac-n-cheese and on and on. If you're not a baseball fan, and reside in the area, you can purchase the cheapest ticket and just go there for dinner, the menu selections are outstanding.

I settled on the Brisket Sandwich: Smoked [ no capitals on sandwich names here and following ] for 20 hours and seasoned with a salt-and-pepper based rub. My son grabbed The Hot Bird Sandwich: Chicken breast, spicy chica shake, slaw, and house made pickles and my wife, she chose, Pork & Broccoli Rabe Cheesesteak: Tender pork shoulder, marinated broccoli rabe, sharp provolone, Bronx-baked hero bread. A couple of Stella Artois, and we were set for the first pitch.

We settled comfortably in our seats, third level with a panoramic view from the right field side of the entire playing field. The green grass of the infield and outfield were [ was ] separated by the dirt around the bases. Blue skies were picture perfect being that the rain held off, and the sun shone gloriously on the crowd.

Approximately ninety minutes later, in the fourth inning my wife wanted to know what was next on the carte du jour? [ not a question--just a period is needed ] After a brief discussion, my son and I embarked on our food run. I stuck with a traditional foot-long chili hot dog to which I added mustard, relish and sauerkraut. A real gastrointestinal nightmare, but it tastes so good. My son opted for: Chicken Wings [ no capitals on food name ]: Slow-smoked, fryer-finished, tossed in a chili-lime sauce, toasted sesame seeds, scallions, cilantro. And my better half chose: Falafel ;no capital ]: Served with falafel, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, and pita bread with two side sauces to dip.

When the game ended, we blended in with the swarm of fans exiting the stadium and arrived at our car. Though we survived the game without a raindrop, those ominous dark, grey clouds were beckoning to explode. And they did, the entire ride home.

Thanks for sharing, Jan

Yep, and we got the tornadoes. As a boy and a young man, I think Yogie was my hero. I played catcher for our school team and of course, I would never miss the chance of seeing my hero. You guys had a good day despite the weather at home.

Yogi was a character. No one will ever wear ten rings like Yogi has (though TB12 gave it a whirl).
    Thanks, Ben.
