This is a good entry. Your character does tell the plants why they need to survive, and the reader can see him going to work to accomplish the goal in time.

I can say without a doubt that you are as clever as {me"}

I can understand the concern for keeping the plant alive for the sake of the grandparents. And I enjoyed the story and the thoughts expressed to the plant. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

That is it exactly, you water and feed, and it blooms and grows. Not a bad partnership, long may it reign. Well done and good luck in the contest!!

Nina,
Thanks for the review and glad you liked it. I am sure you will do fine in your writing. The beauty of this site is that you can try stuff you have probably not heard of. All good for the experience.
Take care and have a lovely day.

A nice balance of thinking, explanation and dialogue. You might have extended the idea further by letting the plant have a 'voice' too - but it works well as it is.
Good development of the narrative, as we worry for Jeremy and the plant, not wishing either to become extinct! Great that Jeremy cares about his grandfather's hopes, enhanced by the additional memories recalled.
Now, obvious remorse is driving hi on to get it right - and a nice reflection that he is acting as his grandfather did in talking to the plant.
Also, you obviously know your elephant Ear plants!
Good luck with this in the competition.

Frankly, I foolishly thought that the plant might speak up for himself at the end, oh well, the photo matched. The conversation, though one-sided was endearing., I imagine we will see more from you. Keep writing.

Karen,
Thanks so much for the review. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I was going to try to introduce some conversation from the plant at the end. However, decided that maybe a little bit unbelievable.
Hope you are finding fanstory an interesting place to post your writing. Keep going

Yes, the hope was better than
trying for reality. I agree with you. Have a good week.
