Aw, this is so wonderful to read, Douglas. It's hard to believe you've only been here a year! You have so many things to be proud of. Your writing talent shines in three genres. I don't write scripts either, and leave those up to tne FanStory chosen few. With my eyesight going bust, I am having to shift gears in the days ahead and review less, writer shorter things, and more poetry. Please don't take that personally. I'll do my best.
I'm glad to know you, Douglas Goff. I predict Recognized Writer soon. Hang in there and keep writing. I'm rooting for ya!
Love and blessings to you and yours,

I'm not sure about shining in three genres. My poetry needs work. I do appreciate your awesome comments. You are great!

I would say you had a good year. You learn over time on this site that most writers will help you by providing productive criticism. While not often, you also have to deal with an author who for whatever reason, does not provide a fair or helpful review. Don't rely on rankings. Just continue to learn and focus on the constructive criticism. You will continue to grow.

This is a nice tribute to Fanstory. I've been on this site since 2003 (off and on) and believe me it has changed astronomically over 20 years. There was a time when one, two, and three-star ratings were dished out a lot more than 5-star ones. Overall, it was well-written and brimming with positivity.
"many pieces I had think are winners" (did you mean "had thought were")

Congratulations, Douglas! Your first year is probably the most successful of any that I have heard! I only wish you would promote more so that more people would review your works! Hope all the people you mentioned will read this! Thanks for the mention!

Oh my goodness! You didn?t have to put that certificate! I had worked all night and was going to put one when I woke up. Not that I don?t really really really appreciate it. You are such a sweet friend.
Douglas.

You're welcome, Douglas. I hoped more people would read it. It's the promotion that really helps to connect with more people as well as reviewing.

While at I.U., did you get to meet the reat Bobby K.? He was a lot like Trump. Great, but crazed.
At seventeen, I enlisted in the Navy. Met some Marines at "A" school and befriended them. I have tried to find both of them without success. I also golfed for 23 years with Corp flyboys at Myrtle Beach. A great group save for the call sign given - Shorty. Go figure. I am 6'6"
Oh, thanks for your service.

Thanks for your service as well my friend. We sadly just lost some marines in a training accident in Australia. Freedom has a price.
I was only at IU for a semester before I headed for California as a Fed.
Did you play basketball at that height? Just curious.
-
I did play b- ball and was the reason I re - upped making All- Navy squads
Then at 27 played four years of college ball in the NAIA

WOW! Douglas, I am standing in the wings and applauding in admiration - $3,250 in one year! That's amazing. Congratulations.
Well, this is really comprehensive - and accomplished! So many successes - the envy of the entire site, I should think.
But this is not you blowing your own trumpet - quite the opposite - this is 'what it says on the label' - a comprehensive thank you to all the people who have helped and inspired you - and by now, I know most of them too.
Well, from one knucklehead to a fellow-sufferer, I think that what you have done here is a testament not only to your sincerity, but to the many worthy and immensely kind people I am just starting to know.
That you have mentioned so many is an acknowledgment of the immense amount of time you must have spent. This is a piece for all of us to book case. So sorry that I have no more sixes. Thank you, Douglas.

Thanks, Paul. I?m as surprised as you that is has gone so well. But there are some very successful writers on the site. Hopefully I am on my way. It has been quite a ride. I really credit Susan, Barbara and Faith for putting so much time and effort into me and my works. They have the patience of angels to have put up with my repetitive mistakes over and over.

We're all on a journey, my friend - but we're traveling together.

This is a very inspiring write about your first year here, Doug! Given your fantasies and amazing imagination and my own love of biographies, I've often wondered about the writer underneath and where all this comes from:) We both have the same law enforcement past lives so I'm going to cling on to the possibility that I too may share your successes one day. A big ask but there's always hope:) Thanks for this heart-warming post! Debbie

I?m no where near where I eventually want to be, but I am also way further than I expected to get in just one year. Does that make sense?
Anyways, I really think persistence is the key. Also in the start, I was waiting for "someone" to tell me I was an author. Once I realized that someone was me, then my writing started advancing. Thank you!
