The Visser sonnet construct, if not familiar with it, is a little challenging to read when one is used to the standard rhyming genres, but interesting and intriguing. I had to re-read a couple times after the Notes explained. But I do enjoy the poem and the imagery of the walk looking for hopeful signs of spring after a heavy winter. Very nice entry for the contest. Good luck!

Thank you, gansach, for your kind praise of my Visser and your comments. Yes, this sonnet format is not well known and different because of the lack of end rhyme. I?m glad you like it.

I am so pleased you like the imagery and detailed descriptions in SPRING THAW, Alexandra. Spring has been slow-coming where I live, but may finally have arrived.

Good.

I didn't actually notice the rhymes not landing in the usual place because I was enjoying the spirit of adventure in your verse. It really takes the reader into that scene in which you long for spring to arrive and worry that winter might have damaged or delayed it advent. This is different and infused with refreshing character - not just celebrating spring but willing it to survive the harsh realities of winter and wake up. Small edit : (t'ward) the sun - thus keeping the meter and syllable count. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Hi, Debbie. The Visser will startle the reader because it has no end rhymes. I am delighted you enjoyed sharing my stroll and find my view of Spring "infused with refreshing character." My dictionary gives 4 different pronunciations of "toward." I chose the most common one which rhymes with "sword."

Outstanding poem that made me really feel being on the spring walk. Your use of imaginary is amazing and the vocabulary makes me think of Shakespeare (it's a good thing:) Well done!!!!

Oh, I am thrilled that my Visser could put you there on that walk in early Spring. Thank you so much for the high praise and all those bright stars.

Your poem beautifully captures the anticipation that comes with the arrival of spring after a harsh winter. I know! I just experienced it myself! The imagery you use paints a clear picture of the changing season, with the thawing snow and the emerging greenery and flowers. Very nicely done!

This is a brilliant entry in the No Restrictions Poetry Contest. I have never seen or read a Visser sonnet and you have written an exceptional poem about Spring's rebirth. Each stanza is beautifully written and the imagery painted within each verse and the rhymes are creative masterpieces.
All the best in the contest,
Eugene

Eugene, you have just made my day, no my week! I am thrilled you like my Visser sonnet and my imagery. Many thanks, too, for those six bright stars.
