That is a really cool picture, Beth. I wish I could do stuff like that on the computer but my daughter can. So I just bug her for things. Lol. This sounds like an awesome place. I've never been to Tennessee but heard it's beautiful. Maybe one day. Your poem was delightful and I got a kick out of how you gave the advice about wearing something comfortable. Gretchen

Thank you, Gretchen. I'm glad you like my picture. This program is easy to use but they've taken it off the market and put on one much more complicated. I'm glad I still have this one. North Carolina is beautiful too. The Western part looks like Tennessee.

Hi Beth,
This poem describes the scene, the original settlers personalities, and the effect the beauty and history have on the tourist.
I like the internal and end rhyme mix
Keep writing and stay healthy
Congrats on placing second in the contest.
Have a great weekend.

What a beautiful photo, and a log cabin to give a featured, central peace. It's a great and you've cleverly used a designer app to shape and perfect an already well shot photograph, I guess your artistic talent give you artistic perspective, beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy

Hi Beth, what a delightful poem and the photo to go with it. It really tells a story how it it once was back in the day. That has all but gone, giving way to what appears to be a destructive path. All best, Ulla:))?

Those few moments in the woods can make a day. Every morning I used to watch the sunrise on the rail at the racetrack, horses' hooves pounding the dirt, rhythmic breaths through flared nostrils. So, now, every morning, as the fog burns off, and the sun peeks between the trees' by the creek, you can find me watching the deer, racoons, or squirrels, whatever might be out. Oh, yeah, the skunks too. Thanks for sharing.

Touring Tennessee? Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia, are the beautiful states. Hell, they are all beautiful, but those are my favorites. The trees are what do it for me. I'm kind of a hermit anyway, so I would love to be in those woods. Thanks for the poem.

Thank you, Eean. There is nothing like being out in nature, away from the city. I 'm glad you liked my poem

I like nature. I loved working in Alaska, now, that's nature.

-It is a beautiful picture, Beth.
-I'll have to look up Picasso.
-Thanks for sharing the notes and poem.
-You wrote a very good poem
with effective imagery and rhyme.
-It flows smoothly from line to line.
-You also give us a good word picture of this place.
-Very good description in the first verse
about the early settlers who came here.
-Then you show how a community grew
from their early efforts.
-A very good closing verse.
-An excellent entry; good luck in the contest.

Thank you, Pam. I appreciate the review and lovely comments. I'm not sure you can still get Picaso. My copy is something I've had on my computer for years. It isn't supported any more.

You are very welcome, Beth. I guess I am behind the times. I don't recall hearing about it.

I've always been under the impression that you had to take a picture with your own camera and post it with a poem; am I wrong about that? This appears to be a painting since someone signed it in bottom left corner.
I really liked: "creating life from the soil," and your humorous ending "but wear some comfortable slacks." Good advice!
Just lovely, and I can see it in my mind from your description.
There are fewer places like this to enjoy; I hope we will keep them.

I did take the picture. It isn't a painting and that is my signature Shelby in the bottom left. I like to play with Picasa which allows you to put frames and signatures on your pictures. It was taken with my Canon. I hope other people don't think it isn't mine. That would be against the rules. Thanks for the nice review.

Beth, if I were you, I'd mention in your author's notes that you took the picture and edited it. Just for clarity.
-
I already did as soon as I wrote an answer to your review. Thanks.

This sounds like a really idyllic spot and you described the hardships that the early settlers would've faced well when they first arrived there. A well written piece, Beth, I enjoyed reading it.

Thank you, Jacob. It is idyllic. There are still a lot of wild animals like bear, dear, fox, wild turkeys and other animals there.

I positively love the photo. Then after reading the poem, the photo fell into a well-beaten second place. Your words flowed together so smoothly. In your final verse you use the phrase; 'a feeling of perfect peace.' That is precisely what this poem delivered to me as I read. Truly wonderful.
