This story is a song of hope and positive thinking. When we are depressed we see troubles bigger. It's very well written and helped me to see my own troubles in proportion.
Thank you,
Laren

This is so cute, my friend. I really enjoyed reading this very inspirational piece that is capable of lifting anyone from the dumps. Your intro about the bulletin board was also very nice and telling. kudos

Dear Bhogg,
I just read your letter, printed and saved to read it again, tomorrow and for sure many more times in the future.
Your experience in some way sounds familiar for me.
In my case, after 15 years with IBM I received the option of an early retirement that I take playing with the possibilities take it or to stay and be placed very soon in the confidential list of the company human write-offs.
Following I inmediately received an offer from HP.
Worked with them again for another 15 years and at the end of that period the same thing happened again.
So I achieve my second early retirement.
Next step was to start my own business that after 3 years were broken, and make me also broke and file a chapter 11 declaration. Of course I lost almost all my financial reserves.
Now I am on my 5th. year as consultant with an international company based in Singapure, and I may try to early retire by 2020 !!
Lesson is that all those experiences and the posiitive solution I found, was a direct result of the love and trust of my wife, our two sons and one daughter, and all our friends and relatives that always motivated and support me, even on my worst days and nights.
Your letter makes me confirm my beliefs and what I think about love and solidarity.
Thanks and congratulations

Thanks for reading and for your positive feedback. I've never reached the level of salary and so called "prestige" of that job 7 years ago. I'm doing just fine though; still live with my best buddy. Life is good!

Hey bhogg, I really liked this a lot. It certainly makes you think about the more important things in life and I can see why it's been recognized. Very inspirtational.

I can see why this message to the editor is still on the board seven years later. It's message is one that a lot of people need to hear these days and hopefully they will find all the things you did.

I have to give this the highest ranking. It truly touched my heart and I would love to share it with a lot of people who whine and complain over things that are a lot less important than the ones mentioned in your letter. I am touched and inspired to the utmost. God is so awesome! He has lifted me up out of my sickness so many times when I thought I wouldn't make it. He has healed me and given me strength beyond my own. "In our weakness, He is strong." Thank you for sharing this wonderful story with me. I read it to my girls. I want all of my children to hear it. You are a blessing. Excellent read, God bless you!

bhogg,
Wow! I like your style. The message reminds of the old saying, "I had no shoes and I complained until I met a man who had no feet." Just look around.
I enjoyed this letter to the editor. A life's lesson well written.

It's one of those things where you feel bad and then you realize things aren't quite as bad as they could be. I think that's happened to all of us, though I can't imagine how it would feel to be laid off after 27 years with the same company. Anyhow, thanks for sharing! :)

It hurt losing that job. I've never regained the salary level nor the so-called "prestige". It really doesn't matter. I've done fine, and still live with my best buddy. Life is good!

No wonder it was petitioned that this be put back on the bulletin board and no wonder they wanted to preserve it in plastic. It is a very beautiful, emotional eye-opener. Very well done. I hope you have found employment. I won't say that I hope you have found peace because apparently you had found that before you wrote this very moving letter.

Hey Double R - I've never regained the salary level nor so-called "prestige" of that job. I've done o.k. though and still get to live with my best buddy. Life is good! I visited my old church yesterday and paused for a moment in front of the portrait of my old rector. She lost her fight with cancer. It caused me to remember one more time how she was fighting for her own life and yet was 100% focused on me. A remarkable lady.
