Hello Alvin your haiku always have a deep and sage meaning the idea of the bitter roasted chestnuts just makes wonder if they are going to have a good New Year.

As it should. What do you think? Thanks for a good review.
-
Alvin you asked me a question
( I cannot answer correctly) But I say it depends upon if the chestnut is poisonous or not poisonous?

Good question! Are there poisonous chestnuts?I really don't know.
-
Yes there are Look on Goggle

--Hmm! I never had those --roasted dried chestnuts. Have a sweet tooth, so I probably won't miss it. :)
--Meets the haiku short-long-short (5-7-5 here) and nature element requirements.
--"its bitter taste portends an
inauspicious year"
Nice metaphoric statement. Literally, the transition is a great leap --from bitter taste to bad year.

Yes, you caught the multivalence of meaning in this haiku. Good work. 5/7/5 English syllables is a misunderstanding of the Japanese language.

I do not recall 'ever' writing this review. In fact, having read it several times now, I'm certain I DID NOT write it, as it's in expressions very unlike me. I will take this matter up with site admin.
I see that this was a post from May last year. Is there any reason why you've waited this long to reply to this review--over a year?
-
Yes, my hospital severe illness and stay. Sometimes reviews are mixed up with personages.
-
But I see that you have been quite active since that date, despite your hospital severe illness and stay. And I don't understand what you mean by reviews being mixed up with personages.
-
I think at this point perhaps you should take it up with the site administration. Perhaps they can straight it out. Have I done something to offend you? I don't think I have ever attacked you personally and tried to be complimentary on several of your haiku. Sometime the wrong review gets credited to the wrong person. I regret if I have ever offended you.
-
No, you have not offended me. The situation is not your fault.
"Sometime the wrong review gets credited to the wrong person"
I guess this is the case here.
Please, peace, and take care.

This is unique, not any others I've read, at least in its format, which is nice. It must give you such a feeling of accomplishment to say so much in such a few words. I anjoyed it. God bless.

inauspicious year
I've never tasted roasted chestnuts; don't know if I've ever seen a chestnut, in fact, but I like the implcation that the unusual bitter taste of one was a prediction of bad times.

Hi Alvin,
An interesting haiku. I found your author notes very educational. I had been wondering about this 5th Season, New Years, and your poem certainly showed me how a haiku could be written that featured it. Clever. It is so true that if one were feeling rather blue on New Years and tasted a bitter chestnut, one might indeed feel it was a bad omen for the year to come! Liked the connection.
Warm regards, Purr ^-^
