Very descriptive, appealing to the senses. Wonderful picture too. Love the personification of the tree and the sentence about leaves showing their silver underbellies. The oriole singing at the end is a stroke of genius.

Susan, this is a wonderful scene you've painted. I can see it happening. You have to use this description somewhere, in something longer. The symbolism, intended or not, is powerful. :) Nancy

It's like losing an old friend when you lose something you are fond of. This is very well writen with a smooth flow of words, making for an easy read.

Susan,
This is an excellent short story about death in nature. I enjoyed reading this post and couldn't find anything to criticize.

I am so glad you are finding time to write again. We are all blessed because of it. It is sad when the old trees fall. I hate seeing it too.

This is a simply stunning short piece - full of lush imagery and honest emotion. Your final line is absolutely heart-breaking. With all the horrific storms and assaults on nature, this piece has a very special resonance to it. Warm regards, Bev
