Amen! Very well said and a great message. If you haven't already done so, I think you should submit this to your local paper. This is an awesome message for everyone to live by, even if you aren't on your second chance. You get the message across very clearly without sounding preachy.

Thanks, Vinnyfan! You made my day with your complimentary comments. After a career of counseling and listening to the woes in many folks, I simply share what I've gleaned over the years. I am delighted you liked it! Peace and blessing to you.

I could not agree more, living in the now is the only way to be happy. I used to worry all the time about what's going to happen, my head was used to always filled with 'what if's' killing all the joy I had in life. Meditation helped me a lot, it was a long process, but slowly I learn how to let things go and how to stop torturing myself with this that haven't even happened yet and probably never will.
Well written, interesting essay with good message. I am not a Christian but I can definitely relate and see your points. I enjoyed the read.

You have an excellent presentation. The way you have organized is great and the captions are helpful. Lots of people feel like they've been given a second chance at life, and you tell them what to do with it in a common-sense way. Live in the now is good advice, as people should enjoy what they have without letting the past cloud matters for them. Be thankful is also good advice, and people can demonstrate this by helping others. Forgiving others and yourself is sometimes hard to do, but it brings peace if you can. Very well stated. judiverse

This is aquite the piece of advice Titan. I think nearly everyone has had something in their life which has made them do a flip flop on life. Just most of them have them later on in life. Excellent advice you offer.

You have pegged many of my core beliefs. I am a "second chancer' and very grateful to be one. I'm also aware that I have much work to do. Your phrase "Ultimately, endeavor to maximize your second chance" sums it up explicitly.

Thanks for your stellar and encouraging review! I am delighted something in it resonated with you. In some ways, my friend we are all "second chancer" as we have all fallen short of the grace of God. Thanks for this awesome review....

Dossie, The story is excellent and compelling. It is a reminder that I needed. Worry is a killer and one's inability to accept life as it comes is doomed. I find that I must work hard everyday to keep worry from becoming a problem. God has blessed me in more ways than I can count, but I seem to forget that from time to time. The following says it all:
Matt 6:31 (NIV) So do not worry, saying, `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?'
32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
I enjoyed the read. Curtis

Thanks so much, Curtis for this insightful and encouraging review. That scripture means so much to me and I try to live by it each day, especially when I become antsy and impatient. Thanks again for that six-star rating!

Worth a six.
Superbly crafted essay. Finely placed and focused points. What's even better is that although this is clearly a faith-based write, it is an approachable read, not confined to a set of scriptures of lofty preaching. It is written directly from the heart and a reader woud need to be well below moronic not to feel the depth of love and compassion that runs through your paragraphs.
Quite frankly, if you are attached to a church, I'd give this essay to your preacher as a suggestion for Sunday morning services. It is a living testament to what I believe Christianity is all about.

Thanks, Spiritual Echo for this awesome review and for the high compliment. Two often, we find less tolerance in our churches, but you are definitely correct, affording a second chance is something a Christian would do. I appreciate your review and comments!

Solid stuff here. I like how you organized it into various sections.
In your intro I would like to see a mention that the core of this piece involves faith and specifically a Christian point of view just to orient the reader.
Also when you talk about abundant life what does that mean? Wealth? Love? Success? Or just plain fulfillment.
Finally the themes are pretty broad. Specific examples especially personal ones would add authenticity and emotion to the piece.
This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.

This is a well-crafted, intriguing essay - it offers valuable advice in a sensitive narrative voice that is not so 'preachy' the reader doesn't want to continue, as often happens with this category of writing. I love that it also endorses giving thanks for the wonders we have - the more we praise His Holy Name, the less we focuses on what we have, rather than what we have not. I also love the idea presented that we should offer ourselves in service to others - there is no lesson in how to realize how fortunate one is that is better than seeing someone else's misfortune. An excellent story.
